Whether you’re an experienced business owner or you’re just starting out, strong habits make everything easier, especially when it comes to bookkeeping.
Bookkeeping isn’t something you just at the end of the year so that you can figure out how much you owe in taxes. It’s something that you have to do regularly, at a minimum of once a month. For larger or more complex businesses, you may need to do it once a month or even daily, depending on the circumstances.

Here are the habits you can build into your monthly routine:
– Schedule dedicated time by blocking 1–2 hours each month as a non-negotiable finance check-in. (Note: if you sign up for one of my Virtual CFO plans, you get regular meetings with me. It’s a win-win!)
– Separate finances by using dedicated business bank accounts and credit cards. There could be legal ramifications if you don’t do this, so it’s very important to get this right!
– Use accounting software like QuickBooks or Xero to keep everything organized and accessible. Don’t understand how to use QuickBooks? That’s okay, since I am a Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor.
– Document everything by saving receipts, invoices, and statements as you go.
– Don’t wait to fix small issues. Handle them early before they turn into bigger problems.
– Know when to ask for help instead of trying to figure everything out on your own
Ready to hand it over and stop doing it all yourself?
